Maxwell's Pupdate!

We love this Happy Tail! Enjoy these beautiful pictures and pupdate on Maxwell who officially joined his forever family in June!

We just wanted to let everyone know that Maxwell – who came into rescue with a broken pelvis and had subsequent surgery on both legs – is really doing great.

Maxwell had to take it easy a long time to let everything heal, and he wasn’t always good at taking it easy! But with a few puzzle toys and Kong chews, he kept himself occupied and off his knees. After meeting with a canine physical therapist, we started taking him on slow short walks twice a day, which he loved! He got to sniff and wander and get out of the house. But we still had to be careful about letting him stand for too long.

Every week, we extended his walks about a block. Sometimes it was too much for him, and other times it wasn’t long enough as he got used to his new knees and hip. Now, if it’s not too hot, he walks between a quarter mile and a half mile, twice a day.

In the last few weeks, Maxwell has started learning how to walk up and down stairs. Some days are better than others, but we’re not pushing his progress. We know he’ll let us know when he’s ready to increase his flights of flight!

My husband and I have had about 30 foster dogs in the last few years. We have failed only twice. The last time about six years ago. We’ve had many wonderful dogs who were welcome to stay aslong as they needed to. But when Maxwell came to us, we just knew he belonged with us forever. And we are so happy to have him!
