News You Can Use - Flea and Tick Prevention

Spring is here finally but unfortunately the fleas and ticks are too. The Washington DC area can be particularly bad for our pups.  And for our poor wigglebutts who are afflicted by flea allergies, we want to do all we can to alleviate their suffering.

Here are a couple of helpful articles about flea and tick prevention options in addition to traditional topical treatments. As always, please consult with your veterinarian before making any changes to your dog's flea and tick prevention regimen.

  • The Whole Dog Journal published an e-book on Keeping Your Dog Flea Free. It goes into great detail on non-chemical and natural options including using Diatomaceous Earth or DE, a calcium dust that you can use inside your house and in your yard to destroy adult fleas and flea larvae -- and fleas cannot develop resistance to it! DE is the substance in DERMagic's Flea Dust noted above. Click here to order and download a copy right to your computer ($8.95 fee).  (note: OBG did not receive any compensation for recommending this product)

  1. Thanks for this hot topic. I just shared on GooglePlus.

We took a hike a week ago. Although we flea and tick protect our dog all-year-round they jumped from the tall weeds. Good thing Sydney's small, white and stands still for grooming. We pulled off and killed over 25 plus at home in the bath discover 6 more.

Later after my shower and dumping my dirty jeans and socks in the washer, I found a tick in MY EAR!

    1. Thank you for reading our blog. I'm glad the info was helpful. It sounds like it's a crazy tick season already. And so hard when you want to be out in the nice weather with your pups. Very scary to have found so many on your Sydney. I have one black cocker and i'm always afraid I won't be able to find them on her.
